Women Crush It In Dealerships | Karen Byrd

If you’re experiencing a tough day take a minute to wonder what it would be like to travel across continents at the tender age of 17 and begin a new life from humble beginnings.

Karen Byrd started her career in the automotive industry 22 years ago after coming to the United States from Guyana,South America.

She was determined to make a better life for herself and family and did so by embarking on a career in retail automotive. Something, at that time was not as accepted as it is today.

Karen is a terrific example of the valuable contribution that women make within the automotive industry, workplace and their communities.

Her greatest personal asset is her ability to show empathy towards others which Karen credits her mother and also attributes much of her success to those who mentored her throughout life.

Her tenor with Colonial Volkswagen/Subaru in Feasterville, Pennsylvania started 11 years ago and in 2012 under Karen’s leadership she decided to make the investment in her team by partnering with DLA for structured dealership training programs.

Karen attributes much of their high closing percentages to the set processes they’ve instituted as part of the Colonial VW/Subaru culture. DLA is an integral part of those aforementioned “set processes”

It starts with discipline, Karen explained in our interview on Wednesday. “Training is part of our process at Colonial VW/Subaru, the guys and gals see the results - and DLA online is very helpful for anyone that may fall behind. We set goals and work collectively, together to make sure an individual is on track to reach their goal – it’s a team effort. There are measurables in place to achieve these goals.”

Industry experts ask us, ‘how do you guys close at higher percentages than others in the industry?”

“After we signed with DLA in 2012, we noticed our closing percentages went up significantly”

The benefits of DLA Training program is also seen through the Colonial VW/Subaru reviews. “If you read our reviews…Customers write about the NO pressure experience.”

One might imagine how Karen has the time to spend one on one time with members of her team as well as organize and participate in dealership Job Fairs, where she engages with members of the community.

Relying on DLA for a professional and structured training program is a key component to creating balance in this busy GM’s life.

Karen Byrd- We honor you for your exemplary work within the automotive industry and your desire and passion to pay it forward.
